I'm a Natural!

From the Wall Street Journal: Medieval Studies Makes Room for Those Raised on D&D. Of course, they have to give credit where it's due:
Ironically, it was the work of an accomplished medieval scholar, J.R.R. Tolkien himself, who unintentionally launched the pop-culture medievalist craze with “Lord of the Rings.” (Tolkien is credited with recognizing “Beowulf” as a literary masterpiece, rather than a linguistic time capsule.)
It seems a natural enough progression to me...

UPDATE: The picture above may need some clarification. To the left is Vargard, my Dwarf cleric character (he of homiletic fame). On the right is a viking, given to me by Dr. Glosecki after he returned from a conference in (I believe) York, England. So, only one of them is actually a gaming figurine; the other is medievalist conference swag.
