A Sense of History

One of my pet peeves--actually, it's graduated far beyond peeve status--is our culture's general ignorance of history. And not only macro-history, the rise and fall of empires and so forth, but also micro-history, our own descent from real people who actually lived. I like to know stories about my ancestors, because I've still got their genes kicking around in me and because they were really neat people.

I haven't the time at the moment, but hopefully I'll be able to give some of them the treatment James Lileks does on his own family tree. Enjoy!
