Lame Monsters of D&D

I'm back in Athens after my long winter's nap break, and will commence more frequent blogging imminently. In the meantime, this should amuse my geekier readers: Stupid D&D Monsters. Exhibit A:

This is a "Gas Spore": a creature that looks just like a Beholder, but isn't. It exists for no other reason than to freak you out because you think you just walked around a corner into a Beholder. Oh, and it explodes into poisonous spores when you hit it. Note that it has 1 HP and an Armor Class of 9, which in this older version of D&D meant that even the lamest heroes could hit and kill the creature on their first try. If you encountered a Gas Spore, it indicated that your DM was a sadistic jerk who wanted your character dead.

They get far stupider and more amusing, so by all means click the link!

What DM doesn't want their player's characters dead?

Me, for one. Scar 'em up a bit, yeah, but I prefer PC death to occur only in cases of very bad luck or incredible stupidity.
