Sober as a Judge?

This is new to me, but apparently for the past three years, a law professor (Jay Wexler at Boston University) has been keeping up with how funny the Supreme Court Justices are, relative to one another. His original study was published in 2005, but the meme got spread around by a NYT article: "So, Guy Walks Up to the Bar, and Scalia Says..." Wexler has since updated his study, the results of which are here: "Laugh Track II--Still Laughin’!"

Wexler's tally, based on the number of times the court reporter writes "(Laughter)" in the transcript, puts Antonin Scalia at the top (54) and Clarence Thomas at the bottom (0). But anyone could tell you this, just from looking at their faces. Antonin Scalia: impish Italian great-uncle who teaches the nephews embarrassing Sicilian slang words. Clarence Thomas: threatening "Don't make me hit you again" gravitas.
